The import of proving such abilities is enormous. It would change society. Thus it is worth continued investigation,IMO.

The import of an idea is mostly irrelevant to any judgment of how silly it is. If aliens are kidnapping millions of people that is an important fact that would greatly change society. How silly is it? Only the evidence matters.

The import of an idea is the hook that con men use to make people do stupid things with their money. It is also the hook that causes wishful thinking and self deception that is so dammaging to the scientific process.

Again, only the evidence matters.

I'm not sure what you are saying here. It appears that you have arrived at a forgone conclusion that paranormal abilities et al do not exist. No room for doubt.

No I'm pointing out that while you could in principle show that (say) ghosts do exist it is nearly impossible to show they don't exist. So the argument that we have no proof that ghosts don't exist is a very poor argument for the reasonablness of the theory of ghosts.

The only question before us is what is the state of the evidence for ghosts. If there is no such good evidence then there is no real reason to give ghosts a second thought. Only the evidence matters.
