In Response To: About Darwin... (Debutante)

First off the linking of Darwin to Nazism is an old tactic by creationists to try and demonize evolution. Social darwinism, as used as an excuse for the Holocaust, has absolutly nothing to do with Darwin or evolution. It is merely misusing science to try and support (excuse?) their actions. From an evolutionary standpoint there are no significant differences between the races. What the Nazis did is akin to what many groups have done in claiming to be "god's chosen people" as an excuse to kill and abuse others.

Now, what if Darwin had agreed with what the Nazis did? What would that mean for evolution? Absolutly nothing. The religious and social convictions of Newton had no bearing on the laws of motion. The beliefs of Galileo did not alter how the planets moved. Any beliefs of Darwin (who was anti-slavery) have no bearing on evolution.

The atheists, in terms of ethics, are where they have always been. Ethics are a social construct which will vary among different cultures. Religion is not needed for them.

Saying religion is evil is incorrect. Irrational, yes, but not necessarily evil. Because religion requires accepting strange beliefs on nothing but faith it can lead to irrational actions. This makes it very easy for religion to lead people into 'evil' acts in the name of their beliefs.
